Ocusense is targeted towards those who suffer from dry eyes. Roughly 16 million adults in the U.S. have been formally diagnosed with dry eye disease, which reflects clinical recognition rather than symptom prevalence.

Dry eye is most commonly caused by a combination of reduced tear production and increased tear evaporation. Factors such as aging, hormonal changes, and certain medical conditions can limit the eye’s ability to produce sufficient tears, while prolonged screen use, reduced blinking, dry or climate-controlled environments, and meibomian gland dysfunction accelerate tear evaporation. Lifestyle behaviors like extended digital device use, contact lens wear, and exposure to air pollution further contribute, as do common medications including antihistamines and antidepressants. Together, these overlapping factors make dry eye a widespread condition closely tied to modern daily routines and environments.

There is an opportunity to design a portable, health-focused atomizer that delivers gentle mist to improve health by addressing the limitations of bulky, hard to maintain wellness devices.
